Dr. Thomas Mathew, director of National Institute of  Industrial   Engineering
(NITIE), is justifiably a happy man.  The institute has  been  recognised as a
centre of Excellence by the government.  Ensconced in  the  comodious  and
lush surroundings admist the  powai and vihar  lakes, the  institute  not  only

COURSE DETAILS

The  mainstay  of  NITIE'S programmes  are the  Post-Graduate Diploma in 
Industrial  Engineering  (PGDIE)   and    the   Post- Graduate  programme in  
industrial   Management. Though  the  two  may  sound   misleadingly  similar,  
the  differences   between  the courses is fundamental. "To  put  it   simply, 
the  industrial engineer  is a   design-oriented   individual    manager  is  
essentially  a  manager  with   a   holistic  perspective about the  entire 
value-chain," "Industrial engineering is  all about evolving an interface
between the engineering  activities  &  daily  management   activities."
And  so,  how  do  engineering &  management  co-exist within the  confines
of NITIE? The answer is  simply  enough  and  is provided in  the  functioning
of the institute.
     

ADMISSIONS

Admission to NITIE, are on the basis of enterance exams. Admission to  post
Graduate diploma in  Industrial management is open  to 1st  class  graduates
in  engineering/ technology  or  equivalent, &  is  through  an  entrance  test 
designed &  administered  by the institute.  Admissions  to  PGDIE is  through 
GATE followed   by a  group   discussion  &  interview  conducted   by  NITIE. 
Work   experience,  though  not necessary, will be  an added advantage.  All 
said  & done, the  NITIE  experience,  in  the words of NITIE student Naveen 
Chandiramani, is  all a bout  "Working in a dynamic environment &  creatively 
seeking out the solutions."

APPLICATION FEE

  A $55 (USA Currency)  non-refundable  processing  fee   must   accompany
  your   application,   made   payable   to   California  State  University.  Your 
  application  will   processed only  for  the   semester  for  which   you  have
  applied; admissions  are   not  "rolled-over" from    semester   to   semester.     
  If you do not complete  your  application  file  by  the document  completion
  deadline  or  do   not  enrol in the  semester   for  which  you    have   been 
  admitted, you must reapply & may be subject   to  another $55   application
  fee. 

DOCUMENT REQUIRED FOR APPLICATION 

• The following officials or certified documents are required  for   admission 
  evaluation. If they are  in  a  language  other  than English,  please have 
  your school,   embassy, or court-approved  transaltion   agency  prepare 
  an exact, literal  page-by-page English  translation. Firmly attach this  to 
  your foreign  language original and submit both  originals to the office  of
  admission. 

FIRST-TIME FRESHMAN DOCUMENT

• Your  secondary   school  &   Higher    Secondary  school    mark-sheets 
  (standard XI to XII ) showing college-preparatory  subject  &  grades for
  each year. An  overall  average  of 55 %  or  better  (equivalent   to  an 
  American 3.0) is required.  Three  years of  advanced   mathematics  are
  required.

• Your Secondary school & Higher Secondary school certificates,  verifying
  graduation. Provisional certificates are not acceptable.

GRADUATE AND SECOND BACHELORS DOCUMENTS 

• Your university records showing subjects.  hours, and grades earned  for 
  each  term.  Affilated   or   constituent   college   mark-sheet   are   not 
  acceptable. An average of 52.5%  or  higher (equivalent to an  American
  2.5) is required in the last two  years of study.

• A four year Bachelors degree certificate  showing  Higher   Second  Class
  Honours, or a Master  degree certificate  also  showing   Higher   Second 
  class  Honous,  the   culmination   of  at  least  16  years  of  education. 
  Provisional degree certificates are not  acceptable.
